Japan's Successful R&D of Solid-state Batteries

TMT     2023-02-25

Recently, David Moss, Nissan's senior vice president of research and development in Europe, said that Nissan had successfully developed all-solid-state batteries, with the goal of starting trial production in 2025 and producing a new electric vehicle powered by solid-state batteries in 2028.

Because solid state battery has the characteristics of long life, fast blood return and long service life, it is likely to be an important revolutionary technology in the next stage of electric vehicle competition.

Unlike lithium-ion batteries and lithium-ion polymer batteries commonly used today, solid-state batteries are batteries that use solid electrodes and solid electrolytes. The density and structure of solid-state electrolytes can allow more charged ions to gather at one end, conduct more current, and improve battery capacity. In addition, it uses glass compounds made of lithium and sodium as conductive materials to replace the electrolyte of lithium batteries in the past and greatly improve the energy density of lithium batteries.

In short, compared with the current lithium battery, the advantages of solid-state battery are quite obvious: first, its charging speed can be increased by several times, and it is not limited by temperature; Secondly, the energy density doubled, and the endurance mileage reached more than 1000 km; More importantly, because the solid electrolyte has the characteristics of non-flammability, non-corrosiveness, non-volatilization, non-leakage and other characteristics, its chemical properties are more stable, and it does not need to worry about safety after puncture.

To some extent, solid-state battery is a revolutionary breakthrough.
